The Clinical Operations and Business Analytics Team (COBA) is looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst. COBA is a subdivision of the Dana-Farber Informatics and Analytics department led by the Chief Data and Analytics Officer that is responsible for building a world class analytics environment, enabling measurability and transparency of key institute KPIs for improved decision making.
As a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst on the COBA Team, you will report to the technical lead of COBA and be embedded in the COBA clinical team. Under the guidance of the technical lead and in close collaboration with the Enterprise data services team, you will assist in the development and execution of a scalable, re-usable data architecture and assets for COBA and it’s stakeholders.
You will be tasked with designing accessible, easy to understand and insightful curated data assets that make regular reporting easy, root cause analysis rich and effective, and insight to action lightning speed. On the COBA Team, you will be part of building an analytics Center of Excellence that drives data-driven insights and teaches others to apply analysis in ways that improve lives both today and in the future.

Responsibilities
- Support the development and enhancement of a strategic data architecture framework for COBA and its value proposition: features, benefits and how it is intended to be used
- Inform and guide the development and enhancement of a technical design and approval process to ensure COBA ways of working are aligned with the value proposition of the scalable, re-usable data architecture
- Design the data model for assets in the business and product layers of the architecture leveraging existing assets
- Validate that future data model and data assets will fulfill any current and historical use cases
- Develop documentation for these assets that will reside in Data Catalog
- Develop plans to migrate and/or refactor any analytic products (e.g. dashboards) to leverage assets in the new architecture and lead the migration effort
- Participate in the review and approval and/or guidance for technical design on new business intelligence and analytics projects
- Participate in the review and approval and/or guidance for exception requests that will create technical debt
- Track technical debt, develop and lead implementation of plans to remediate technical debt
- Participate in the review and approval and/or guidance for analytic assets like data sources, dashboards to ensure they are performant and scalable and that viz style guide and best practices are adopted
- Proactively identify enhancements to data and analytic assets to align with the vision of scalability and re-usability
- Inform the development and implementation of a process to identify, communicate and implement changes to existing analytic assets due to upstream changes in data assets
- Inform and guide the development of a education and training curriculum on technical aspects of Business Intelligence projects
- Participate in office hours for Tableau, SQL, Snowflake support
- Educate and train stakeholders, analysts on the benefits of, details, and how to effectively leverage the scalable, re-usable data architecture
- Serve as a mentor and teacher within communities of practice on technical aspects of business intelligence projects
- Independently lead and manage multiple aspects of various technical projects and guide resources who do not directly report to you
- Develop and track project timelines to ensure accurate and timely delivery
- Coordinate and track requests for additional data from source systems with appropriate parties
- Serve as a critical link between COBA and EDS for the design and governance of curated data assets
- Build, deliver, maintain and improve data assets iteratively with stakeholder feedback; manage a backlog of technical issues that require resolution
- As needed, create beautiful and thoughtful data visualizations using Tableau to accelerate information-to-action at scale (e.g., describing performance of KPI’s for leadership and helping operators on the frontline to make immediate process and performance improvements)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, or related domain. Master’s preferred
- 3+ years of experience in Business Intelligence performing quantitative analysis and data modeling with at least one year in healthcare or life sciences
- Certification in Epic Clarity Clinical Data Model preferred
- Experience translating business needs into technical requirements to build and transform data into valuable, easy to understand insights
- Strong knowledge of data architecture principles, best practices, and industry standards
- Proficient in data modeling techniques and strong understanding of conceptual, logical and dimensional modeling and developing ERDs
- Proficient at writing complex SQL queries that blend together data from dozens of sources for analysis, visualization, or reporting
- Hands on experience building data visualizations (preferably in Tableau) to communicate complex ideas and enable data-driven decision making at all levels of the organization
- Experience with data governance frameworks, data quality assurance, and metadata management
- Demonstrated ability to learn technologies quickly through instruction and self-training
- Working knowledge of Epic EMR a plus, but not required
- Ability to function independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills and a history of effectively working and communicating with all levels of internal and external technical and non-technical staff
- Able to set appropriate expectations, discuss and present results to customers in formal settings, and share ideas accurately and communicate them effectively, both in writing and verbally
- Demonstrates ability to influence collaborators on optimized technical design solutions
